Shadow Home Affairs Minister James Paterson has labelled the strike on a hospital in Gaza as an “utterly catastrophic and tragic loss of human life”. An attack on the al-Ahli Arab Baptist Hospital in central Gaza City killed at least 500 people. “It’s disputed at this stage whether or not this was an Israeli air strike which missed a target,” Mr Paterson told Sky News Australia. “Or whether or not it was a Palestine Islamic Jihad or Hamas rocket which misfired and landed in Gaza. “If it was the latter, that would not be uncommon in previous conflicts. “Up to 40 per cent of the rockets fired out of Gaza by Hamas and Palestine Islamic Jihad, in fact, land in Gaza and often cause collateral damage for civilians.”
