Twenty-Four Soldiers Killed in Deadliest Day for Israeli Military

Monday was the deadliest day for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) since the start of their ground invasion of Gaza. Twenty-four Israeli soldiers died, with twenty-one of those killed in a single explosion. The deaths come as the IDF ramps up its assault on Khan Younis in southern Gaza. Israel claims senior Hamas military leaders are hiding somewhere in the city. Much of the fighting is centred around several hospitals in the area. Israel claims militants are fighting from inside the hospital, a claim Hamas denies. The Hamas-run Health Ministry in Gaza says almost 200 Palestinians have been killed in the last day. Khan Younis is one of the places many people in northern Gaza fled to during last year’s Israeli offensive in the north. As the battle for the city has intensified, thousands have once again been forced to flee.
