The Israeli army on Sunday (January 21) released footage of what it said was a tunnel discovered by Israeli soldiers in the Gaza Strip comprising of cramped cells where the military said Hamas kept about 20 hostages. The video showed narrow passageways in the tunnel which the army said was a kilometre-long and rigged with blast doors and explosives. It also contained rooms behind metal bars, toilets, mattresses, pots and pans at a sink, the footage showed. No hostages were there when it was discovered, the army said. An Israeli military spokesman said the tunnel entrance was in the house of a Hamas terrorist in the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis, where Israel has been focusing its fight in recent weeks. The military released footage from the underground labyrinth and said it brought in journalists to document the tunnel before it was destroyed.
