Standing on a volcanic Indonesian hillside of the Halamahera Island I time-lapsed something I've never seen in my 10 previous eclipses, it happens too fast and my gaze is always ON The eclipse. It's the conical shadow of the moon moving overhead. You need clouds and these were perfect. I slow down the totality to see the shadow moving across the clouds, then lights come on in the villages below it is so dark. Mercury appears near the moon/sun, and 3 minutes later the sun reappears as the shadow floats outbound across the sky and we are out of the umbra. Shot by Michael Aisner.
