NASA mission will target an asteroid in world-first experiment

NASA is set to launch a spacecraft next week in a world-first experiment which will target an asteroid millions of kilometres from Earth. The “DART Rocket” will slam into the asteroid head on at more than 22,000 kilometres an hour. The two-stage test will help scientists determine human-kind’s ability to change the direction of an asteroid if it were ever on a collision course with Earth. The second part of the test will monitor how the asteroid responds to the impact.
