'FIFA Suspends FA President Luis Rubiales Following World Cup Kiss'. Fifa has suspended Spain’s FA President, Luis Rubiales following his conduct at the Women’s World Cup Final in Sydney, last weekend. The 46-year-old has been at the centre of controversy after kissing Spanish player, Jenni Hermoso on the lips, following Spain’s 1-0 win against England on Sunday. In interviews conducted in Spain’s dressing room celebrations, Hermoso indicated that she was uncomfortable with the interaction and ‘did not like it’. The suspension follows the Federation’s statement released on Saturday morning, in which they threatened legal action against the player for ‘lies’ and ‘defamation’ against its President. As well as against 81 players - who in a joint letter, refused to play for Spain’s women’s team, until Rubiales is removed from post. On Friday, Rubiales went off on a rant during a federation assembly where he was widely expected to resign. He claimed instead that the kiss was ‘mutual and with consent’ and he was the victim of a witch-hunt by ‘false feminists’. It sparked fierce backlash, with Hermoso posting on social media: “At no time did I consent to the kiss”. The 33-year-old claimed she has been ‘under continuous pressure' to speak out in defence of Rubiales.
