Through a fascinating process of controlled improvisation (in which EotS composer Niels Achtereekte directed his bandmates through musical and scenic prompts), this experimental doom, noise & free jazz ensemble crafted intricate stems using drums, guitar, and trombone. This method allowed the band to explore spontaneous creativity within specific boundaries. By later layering synths, bass guitar, and various instruments on top of the recordings, they created a unique musical experience that shows their jazziest approach to their signature sound to date. With noise attacks when you least expect them. Thematically, Eaters of the Soil addresses topics that unintentionally reflect the band’s name. Or was it predetermined that this would happen one day...? As the liner notes of this release read: ‘The plants are weak. The humans are weak.’ A distressing truth unfolds: our plants grow feeble, vital nutrients dwindle and the building blocks of a healthy human body crumble. The intrinsic medicinal value of our food steadily disappears. The concerning issue of power centralization over the food chain is often overlooked and actively opposed by those benefiting from it, while the true implications remain largely unexplored. Centuries-old knowledge has fallen into oblivion in favor of short-term gains and exhaustive scaling-up. The alarming surge of chronic inflammation and the relentless spread of seemingly unrelated afflictions like autism and Alzheimer’s underscore a profound connection between our food chain and human well-being. Meanwhile synthetic contamination permeates groundwater, air and rainfall, casting a dark shadow upon both our species and the fragile ecosystems we inhabit. ‘It makes them suffer and then fall into disharmony and disease.’ credits released September 22, 2023 Line up Rutger van Driel – Trombone Stef Brans – Guitar Gert Komduur – Drums Niels Achtereekte – Bass, Synths & Samples Credits Recorded by Serpentine @ dB’s Utrecht, 2022 Mixed and Mastered by Eaters of the Soil Artwork by Thijs Brouwers Released by Bent Window Records, 2023 (BWR064) *********** Support the Channel Buy a Coffee for 666MrDoom https://ko-fi.com/666mrdoom ************
