The Albanese government is scrapping the COVIDSafe app – labelling the contact tracing tool "wasteful and ineffective". The Morrison government launched the app in April 2020 at a cost of more than $21 million. Despite nearly eight million registrations in its first month, fewer than 800 users consented to their data being added to the national COVIDSafe data store. It will be removed from download platforms and all data will be deleted.
