House Oversight Chair James Comer said in a statement QUOTE Joe Biden has lied from the start". Incoming Senate Judiciary Chair Chuck Grassley said in part QUOTE I'm shocked. Meanwhile, House Oversight Democrat Greg Stanton saying QUOTE I respect President Biden, but I think he got this one wrong. Congress is back this week following their Thanksgiving break. The Senate gaveled in today at 3pm. They'll work on more of the President's judicial nominations. The House is back tomorrow. On their agenda—a possible vote on whether to release the Ethics Committee's report of former Florida Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz. And of course, we are just 18 days away from the next government funding deadline when Congress must pass a new federal spending bill to avert a shutdown. The Supreme Court heard a case today on whether the Food and Drug Administration unlawfully blocked the sale of some vaping products. The agency has denied more than a million applications of candy or fruit flavored products as part of wider crackdown saying they appeal too much to kids. But vaping companies say the FDA unfairly disregarded arguments that those flavors can help adults quit smoking without increased risk to kids. ,Last full day of campaigning in New Hampshire for the remaining two major Republican presidential candidates, former President Donald Trump and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, and the two are sharpening their attacks against the other. On the Democratic side, President Joe Biden is not on the New Hampshire primary ballot, sticking with the DNC's plan to make South Carolina the first primary, but challenger Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) is making the rounds in the Granite State. President Biden today at the White House highlights abortion rights, on this anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision that had legalized abortion, before the Dobbs decision almost two years ago struck that down, leaving each state the power to make its own abortion laws. Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT), a negotiator on U.S. border security, says a deal between Republicans and Democrats is "largely done”, although how to spend the money is still being worked out. Any such agreement on border security is expected to be added to president Biden's request for aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan. (10) In the race for the Republican presidential nomination Asa Hutchinson drops out after a sixth place finish in the Iowa caucuses Monday. Donald Trump, who finished first, goes to New York City to attend his defamation trial from E. Jean Carroll, Ron DeSantis, who was second in Iowa, heads to South Carolina, and Nikki Haley, who was third, goes to New Hampshire. The White House says President Joe Biden will meet with the Democratic and Republican leader of the House and Senate at the White House on Wednesday to discuss his national security spending proposal, which includes aid for Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan, as Senate negotiators continue talking about U.S. border security, which Republicans wants to include in the package. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) forces a vote on the Senate floor that could suspend all aid to Israel. He is protesting Israel's war in Gaza. ,The Michigan Supreme Court rejects a lawsuit challenging former President Donald Trump candidacy for the presidency under the U.S. Constitution's "insurrection clause" in the 14th Amendment. We will talk with USA Today Supreme Court Correspondent John Fritze about the Michigan case and a similar case in Colorado, which went the other way, and whether this issue will end up before the U.S. Supreme Court. (1) Pollster Frank Luntz assesses the state of the 2024 race for president at an event held by the group "No Labels," which is considering backing a third-party candidate. He talks about the viability of such a third-party candidate. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Homeland Security Sec Alejandro Mayorkas are in Mexico City meeting with the Mexican President about immigration and border security, as upwards of 10,000 migrants a day have been arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border in recent days. Israel again is very critical of the United Nations, saying it is not staying neutral in Israel war with Hamas, but actively supporting Hamas. Russia convenes an informal meeting of the United Nations Security Council and invites briefers that back only its narrative that the 2014 revolution in Ukraine against a pro-Russia leader was a de facto coup carried out the U.S. and other western nations and that the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine was justified by mistreatment of Russian-speaking Ukrainians. Every other country's ambassador who spoke at the meeting rejected those views are outright false.
