At the heart of the Milky Way, a cluster of stars has baffled scientists, appearing as if they are forever young. A new theory proposes a mind-bending explanation that could rewrite our understanding of stellar evolution: These stars could be feeding off dark matter – powered indefinitely by the most mysterious substance in the universe.
Studying these objects may lead to breakthroughs in our understanding of dark matter and the universe itself. Some even speculate that dark matter may even organize into forms of dark life. The only way to know for sure is to keep looking.

,1,Change is coming. Humanity is entering a turbulent new era, unprecedented in both Earth and Human history. To survive the coming centuries and fulfill our potential as a species, we will have to overcome the biggest challenges we have ever faced, from extreme climate change, to rogue A.I., to the inevitable death of the sun itself.
The headlines make our chances look bleak. But when you look at our history and our tenacity, it's clear that humanity is uniquely empowered to rise to the challenges we face.
If we succeed, our potential is cosmic in scale. Incredible prosperity is within our reach. Being optimistic is not only justified, it's a powerful weapon in the fight for a higher future.

,1,If mankind went extinct, could we be revived? It’s not out of the question. If another intelligent species evolved over millions of years, there’s a chance they could recover enough genetic material to resurrect us, much like how humans have begun to experiment with de-extinction of wooly mammoths. They could learn much about us biologically. But in 5 million years, all remnants of our cities will be destroyed by nature, and evidence of our culture will be lost — except in the case of the Voyager golden record, floating safely through empty space, trillions of miles away by then.
A clip from THE HUMAN FUTURE — now slated for a mid to late summer release.

Far beyond Earth, a new type of alien water planet could be speckling our galaxy by the billions, like cosmic dew drops.
These “Hycean Planets” range up to ten times the mass of the Earth, containing mega-oceans that could stretch down hundreds of kilometers.
Their extreme pressures keep their water liquid across a wide range of temperatures, broadening the zone in which they could host life. And researchers now believe that these worlds are extremely common in the universe.
Soon we will get our first peek into the atmosphere of a possible Hycean world, K2-18b, thanks to the James Webb Space Telescope. What secrets will these ocean worlds reveal? Is something out there, swimming freely in an ocean more vast that we can imagine?

,1,New signals from deep space! Astronomers just announced the discovery of 8 potentially alien radio signals, using machine learning to comb through old data sets.
These signals came from 5 different stars, all within 90 light years of Earth.
One of them came from a G-type star, just like our own sun. Another one mysteriously stopped and reappeared 3 days later. And all were narrowband signals, which are rarely produced by natural sources.
While follow-up observations have not yet confirmed these signals, intensive further study is now underway – and this new machine learning approach to combing signal data could radically accelerate the search for alien intelligence.
It remains to be seen what these signals are. But this breakthrough suggests that the question of “are we alone?” may not be answered by us humans, but by our machines.

,1,This massive planet will melt your brain 🤯. 434 light years from earth, the newborn world J1407B has a ring system that extends nearly 120,000,000 KM, making it 200x bigger than Saturn’s rings.
If Saturn’s were this massive, they would be easily visible from Earth and appear bigger than the full moon in the night sky.
One day, these rings will condense into a large family of moons, possibly hundreds of them, much like Saturn and Jupiter have today. Perhaps these planets were once home to enormous ring systems in their youth as well.

,1,When massive stars explode in violent supernovas, they wipe out any nearby planets — but sometimes, the leftovers debris from this catastrophe can cool and condense, eventually forming entirely new worlds: zombie planets, built from the ashes of the dead.
2,300 light years away, an ancient pulsar harbors 3 potential zombie worlds: Draugr, Phobetor, and Poltergeist. The intense X-ray radiation from their dead star, combined with the strobing light of the spinning pulsar poring over the surface, would make these planets appear truly alien to anyone who dares to visit.

Meet the Navis III: An imaginary ship that will take you anywhere in the Milky Way. Its maiden voyage will send you on a tour of the wildest planets humanity has yet discovered: worlds that defy belief, from planetary oases to scorching hot gas giants with clouds made of metal.
This interstellar journey will give us a glimpse into how deep nature’s imagination goes…. and blaze a path for future pioneers, who might one day plant their flags on landscapes we can hardly imagine.

,1,What happens when machines begin to question their origins?
In this short film created with generative art, we explore how artificial intelligence sees the universe, its creators, and its potential futures. I believe the emergence of artistic A.I. has touched off a new era for art that could be as profound as the first cave paintings, 50,000 years ago. If these artistic capabilities are possible after only a few decades of A.I., research, what will the next 50,000 years hold? What will we become?

For 60 years now, we have probed the skies for signs of alien intelligence, longing for connection -- to no avail. But new ideas and technologies are beginning to change the game.
Proudly presenting the third chapter in the Life Beyond trilogy: In Search of Giants.
In this journey, we will see how far we’ve come in the search for intelligent life, how they might be communicating, just how advanced they might be, and what it would mean if we really did make contact.
It might take thousands of years to make a discovery. But as long as the mystery endures, the search for giants will continue. It's in our blood to want to know.

The Moon has drawn out our sense of wonder since before we were fully human. Where did it come from? What secrets are written in its rocks? For most of our history, its story was cloaked in myth and mystery. Only now are the vivid details coming into focus.
This video takes you back 4.5 billion years to witness the dramatic ways which the moon could have formed, according to the latest mind-blowing theories. By reading the clues written in Moon rocks, we are closer than ever to knowing its full story. But the Moon still holds its secrets close. What else is it hiding?
