Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) tried again Wednesday to receive the 217 votes needed to succeed ousted Kevin McCarthy as the next speaker of the House of Representatives. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) bested Jordan on Tuesday’s first ballot, drawing 212 votes to the Republican’s 200. There were 20 votes for other candidates. Rep. David Joyce (R-Ohio), a member of the moderate Problem Solvers Caucus, is expected to shake things up with a move to empower Speaker pro tempore Patrick McHenry (R-NC) with enhanced authority as House Republicans have been unable to reach consensus, sources confirmed to The Post.
