On September 1, 1993 Paul Bernardo was found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder for killing Kristen French and Leslie Mahaffy, as well as seven other charges in the rape and murder of the two women. He received a life sentence with no chance of parole for 25 years. Earlier in 1993, Bernardo's then-wife, Karla Homolka, pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter and a 12-year prison sentence after striking a deal with prosecutors -- this deal would later be known as "the deal with the devil." In 1997, the fifth estate investigated Homolka's life in a documentary called "Karla Homolka." In this feature, producer Susan Teskey and, host Trish Wood talk about what it was like to see the hidden police evidence tapes and what it was like to get to know Karla Homolka.
