Child Joyriding Stolen Forklift Truck Causes MAYHEM

This heavy-duty forklift truck is being driven by a 12-year-old boy. Police in Michigan responded to a report that somebody was attempting to steal a construction vehicle from a middle school. When they arrived they saw a forklift truck being driven away without any lights on. Officers immediately started a 20mph pursuit of the vehicle. When the vehicle finally stopped, over an hour later, the driver was identified as a local 12-year-old boy. While at least ten vehicles were damaged, nobody was injured in the pursuit. The boy was taken into custody and transferred to a juvenile detention centre. An investigation revealed the child had found the vehicle’s key in the cab of the unlocked ‘Genie GTH-636 Telehandler’. In a statement Ann Arbor Police said it was a ‘very dangerous situation’, and the 9-ton vehicle could have easily caused serious injuries.
