Michelangelo - A Revolution in Art | Documentary

At the young age of 23, Michelangelo broke all traditions and created his first masterpiece - the Pietà, of Mary cradling the body of Jesus Christ after his death, who looks as if he was sleeping peacefully. Michelangelo’s David, carved from a 7-metre-high block of marble, also broke taboos of its time - an anatomically perfect body representing the freedom and sovereignty of the spirit. Michelangelo’s frescoes are no less monumental than his sculptures. When Michelangelo was offered the job of decorating the arched ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, he had never painted a fresco before. He locked himself in the Sistine Chapel for four years and suffered terrible hardships while working day and night. The result was a work the likes of which had never been seen before: The Creation Story, portraying God’s creation of the world.
