SPEECHLESS! Amazing Gift From Fixture Gaming!
We just received an amazing gift from the fine team at Fixture Gaming, something we didn't see coming at all!!
Check out our Founders Edition S2 Review at https://youtu.be/WSCgxz4Ssnw
I've said in the past that I've not been a huge fan of playing the original Nintendo Switch or the Switch OLED in handheld mode. I don't like the feel of the JoyCon in my hands, I think the buttons are too small, and I don't like to throw on the analog sticks. For years I've used a device called the Fixture Gaming s1 on my original Nintendo Switch. This allows you to connect your Switch to a mount that then clips onto a Switch Pro controller. It's ingenious and its design, it's incredibly comfortable, and it lets you use the best controller for the Switch! The one drawback has been the fact that it does not work with the Switch OLED. That's where the Fixture Gaming S2 comes into play, pun very much intended.
The version you see here is the Founders Edition, the actual production version May differ slightly and will be available in the summer of 2022. It is available in all black, or black with red and blue accent trim like I have here. You can use it to hold your Switch while connected to a Switch Pro controller, or you can also use it to hold your Switch in tabletop mode. The articulating arm has two different pivot points, and this allows you to move and adjust the screen position to optimize the balance for whatever is most comfortable for you.
Installing the Switch OLED is super easy. Simply remove the JoyCons, and slide the Fixture Gaming S2 onto the rails. Just out of curiosity we did check to see if there was a way to mount the original Switch to the S2, and as expected the picture gaming S2 is simply too wide to facilitate that.
Since the clip appears to be the same as on the original model, it will work with the Nintendo Switch Pro controller, and it also works with the KMD Pro Controller as well. Now the KMD controller is a little bit on the loose side, but nothing that super detracts from your gameplay experience.
I had waited for this since I heard the announcement of the Switch OLED, and my excitement was palatable. With everything mounted up, I fired up a game of MLB the Show 22, we're at the time of this posting my Milwaukee Brewers are a perfect 25-0. Now I will say that while I was waiting for the S2 to come out I had picked up a few other grips that felt good, but nothing feels this good. First of all, you get to use a real controller instead of JoyCon's, and there's nothing that can replace that experience. It's also incredibly well balanced, adjustable, everything that I was hoping for and more. The one knock I have to give it from a fit and finish standpoint is that the Switch seemed to slide up and down in the rails considerably more than on my S1 or S1 founders edition. I'd like to see them tighten up these tolerances just a little bit to prevent that.
Why it RoX:
- Injection-molded
- Allows use of Pro Controller
- Incredibly well balanced and adjustable
- Can be used in tabletop mode
- Provides access to charging ports on Pro Controller and Switch
- Two different color options
- Simply the finest handheld experience for the Switch
What could be improved:
- Tolerances on the rails are a little bit on the loose side
- No founders edition badging
- Only compatible with a few controllers
- More color options would be nice
- Must be removed to play the Switch in the dock
Should you buy one?
I have considered the Fixture Gaming s1 to be the absolute finest way to play your Nintendo Switch in handheld mode, and the S2 carries on that tradition for the Switch OLED. This is exactly what I've been waiting for. It is so well balanced, so well thought out, and simple and its design. While it doesn't have the cool founders edition badging as the s1 did, I am more than happy to have this available to me as this will without a doubt be the way that I play my Switch OLED in handheld mode from now on.
