The defeat of the Indigenous Voice to parliament has been considered a stumbling block for future referenda without bipartisan support, including whether Australia becomes a republic. Australia has rejected the Voice, with 61 per cent of voters voting ‘no’ in the referendum. Australian Republic Movement CEO Isaac Jeffrey joined Sky News Australia to discuss this outcome. “This isn’t a setback for the republic, it isn’t a setback for future referenda – it’s a setback for the Voice,” Mr Jeffrey said. “Each and every individual referendum needs to be taken to people on its merits, and they should be given the opportunity to have their say.”
