U.S. Senate returns to session in Washington after the six week summer recess. One of the top issues to address is funding the federal government to avoid a shutdown come October 1. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) gives his first speech on the Senate floor since his medical incident last week where he appeared to freeze up while answering reporters' questions in his home state of Kentucky. We hear from the Senate leaders and talk about the agenda with The Hill's Congressional reporter Mychael Schnell. (8) White House confirms that First Lady Jill Biden, who has been diagnosed with COVID, continues to have mild symptoms and that President Joe Biden has against tested negative. Impeachment trial of Texas Attorney General begins in the Texas Senate. He pleads not guilty to accusations of corruption and abuse of office. President Biden awards the Medal of Honor, the nation's highest military award for valor, to a Vietnam War helicopter pilot who risked his own life to save four U.S. servicemembers about to be overrun by the enemy in a helicopter not designed for that mission. Latest on White House intelligence that Russian President Vladimir Putin may meet with North Korean President Kim Jong Un on a weapons deal to resupply Russia's war against Ukraine. And remembering Bill Richardson – former NM governor and congressman, and U.S. Ambassador to the UN, and in recent years, the nation's unofficial ambassador to help release U.S. citizens held by foreign governments.
