If the power crisis in Venezuela has taught us anything, it is the fact that the modern world is not ready for long term power outages. We now depend on electricity more than ever and it has become such an integral part of our day-to-day lives whether we like it or not. Which makes you wonder what would happen if the power went out all over the world for a long period of time. Electromagnetic pulses, also known as EMPs, have the ability to kill any electronic device in the near vicinity of where the event occurred. If a strong enough EMP weapon went off, it could potentially kill most of the electronic devices on earth. In this episode of Imagine That we are going to take a look at how such an event may play out. In the 2019 Venezuelan Blackout, the lack of electricity for an extended period of time resulted in total chaos with hospitals losing patients in a matter of hours, streets getting overrun by pedestrians and stores getting looted. People started fighting over the limited supplies that were left and public unrest was high. We suspect something similar might happen if such an event occurred on a global scale.
