It begins by looking at the three main industries in the country including sheep farming for wool and meat, timber processing, and dairy products. This is followed by a look at the real estate market and all the new houses that have been built. It then briefly looks at advances in hydropower and geothermal power production. There is then footage of advances in schooling, including a special focus on the “complete and successful” integration of the Māori into the education system and society at large. It follows with some summary shots while the narrator discusses the difficulties facing the country, with a particular emphasis on widespread unionization as a barrier to development. 0:06 “New Zealand Today”, 0:11 sheep being loaded on a truck, 0:38 truck unloading sheep at a slaughterhouse, 1:24 sheep carcasses being prepared for shipping by being skinned, gutted, and washed, 2:15 the ship “Port Alma" being loaded with sheep carcasses, 2:31 sheep being shorn, 2:57 the Edendale Dairy Factory, 3:05 butter being cut and prepared, 3:27 cows on a pasture, 4:02 cows being milked by machine, 4:23 aerial overview of a commercial timber forest, 4:38 the inside of a timber processing mill, 5:43 a plant producing pulp and newsprint, 6:01 people walking in a city during rush hour, 6:30 different shots of new houses being built, 6:55 traffic on a motorway, 7:02 the New Harbor Bridge in Auckland, 7:20 different houses in the suburbs, 7:29 the inside of a suburban house, 7:53 a derelict house, 8:18 a river flowing, 8:29 aerial overview of different Hydropower plants, 8:50 a hot spring and volcanic geysers, 9:36 a large geothermal power station, 9:48 children at a school, 10:18 university students, 10:40 different shots of Maori, some in Western clothes and some in traditional clothes, 11:06 Māori women weaving baskets, 11:40 old cars, 11:53 people skiing, 12:01 people get off a plane, 12:31 an industrial plant, 12:52 a party with people dancing, 13:19 different city shots, 13:41 summary footage of sheep and timber processing, industrial sites, and hydropower plants, 14:28 Originally written and produced by Gordon Braddley for ATV14:43 Distributed by Rank Film Library.
