The day before the third anniversary of the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S Capitol, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland on Friday (January 5) called the event an "unprecedented attack on the cornerstone of our system of government." "Since the January 6 attack, the Justice Department has engaged in what has become one of the largest and most complex and resource intensive investigations in our history," Garland added. Thousands of Trump supporters attacked the U.S Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, in a bid to stop formal certification of the Republican president's election defeat, causing millions of dollars in damage. Four people died on the day of the attack, and one Capitol Police officer who fought against the rioters died the next day. Four officers have since taken their own lives and 140 others were injured. #merrickgarland #jan6 #capitolhill The New York Post is your source for breaking news, news about New York, sports, business, entertainment, opinion, real estate, culture, fashion, and more.
