Almost a dozen House Republicans – mostly Freedom Caucus members – stop legislation that Speaker Kevin McCarthy wanted to advance, in protest over how the Speaker negotiated the spending agreement with President Joe Biden to raise the debt ceiling and avoid a default. President Biden holds a Cabinet meeting to discuss his administration's priorities on the economy and other issues for the next 100 days. A dam is blown in Ukraine, forcing tens of thousands of people to flee the rushing waters. Ukraine blames Russia, and Russia blames Ukraine. We will get the White House National Security Council reaction to this development in the war. House Speaker McCarthy suggests there will be no supplemental spending bill this year for aid to Ukraine, despite some Senate Republicans' insistence on such an agreement in exchange for their votes on the debt ceiling and spending cut bill last week.
